Coast Landscape II is mixed media on paper by British artist Megan Spencer. Inspired by the coast her works describe the coastal landscape, years of experimenting with paint and other mediums has allowed Megan to form a distinctive style. Working from photographs, colour is one of the most important elements when Megan is describing the drama and light of the landscape.
Born in 1989, Megan can always remember painting as a way of expressing herself and describing the world around her. Much of her work is based around the coast and surrounding landscape of the places she has visited. In particular Megan is intrigued by the rich environment of the Gower and Pembrokeshire coast and continues to be inspired by the drama, colours and expanse of the coastline.
Years of experimenting with paint and other mediums has enabled Megan to establish a distinctive style and working freely with mixed media allows her to illustrate the energy of the landscape perfectly. Portraying the different light, colour and textures in this way proves the spontaneity of the marks made, yet allows for the fluency of the work.
'Behind every mesmerising landscape is an equally and enchanting place, which provides a starting point for my paintings. The drama and excitement that can be portrayed through putting paint and other materials to paper is truly captivating and provides the solid foundation for the basis of my work'.
